The mosaic pool looking toward the Red Tower and harbor

Tophane, Alanya, Türkiye · EST. 1881

Since 1881 — the calm of stone and sea.

Coffee beneath the lemon trees in the morning; a glass of wine facing the Red Tower by evening. There is no rush.

The house · 1881

Not a rental apartment. A real home.

A stone house in Tophane’s streets, built in 1881. Restored in 1995 with local architects; the Mediterranean character kept: stone walls, high ceilings, shaded terraces.

Today the whole house is yours. The hosts live independently upstairs. Below: two bedrooms, one bathroom, a kitchen, a living room, terraces, and a private mosaic pool looking toward the sea and the Red Tower.

In the garden: lemon, citrus, olive, fig. Lavender and flowers. Neighborhood cats pass through as they please. Morning under the trees; evening as the tower turns red.

Tophane · an open-air museum

The older, quieter streets of the peninsula.

Alanya has a busy resort side. Luna’s guests live in the older, quieter stone streets of Tophane — not on the package-tourism strip.

A registered historical conservation area. Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine, Seljuk, Ottoman — five civilizations on the same cobbles. Bougainvillea, lemon scent, shade.

The sea and the historic harbor are about a seven-to-eight-minute walk. Nearby: the Red Tower, the historic Tersane, the crescent bay, Alanya Castle. From Esat Tower, a historic climb of about six hundred steps toward the castle.

Eat

Walk down through the bougainvillea. Sit by the water. Order slowly.

These places are real. No menu promises — atmosphere and a direction.

Walk from the house

Mahperi Restaurant

İskele Caddesi, the harbor — since 1947

Alanya’s oldest restaurant. Family-run, on the water, under the castle. Turkish and Mediterranean; known for fish and meze. A special evening, not a cheap snack.

Walk from the house

İskele Sofrası

Tophane Caddesi / the harbor — father and son

A traditional Turkish table: kebabs, meze, pide, lahmacun, Aegean-style fish. Family-run, walk-in friendly. Weekends can be busy.

Walk from the house

Kale Panorama Restoran

Kale Caddesi, Tophane — high on the castle road

City, harbor and sea together. Turkish and Mediterranean. Sunset is the reason to go. The view is honest; we will not oversell the food.

Walk from the house

Around the harbor and Tersane

Between tower and shipyard — gözleme, tea, small büfes

A simple Turkish breakfast, gözleme, tea in the shade of the castle walls. Right after a morning swim. We do not invent a café name; in Tophane these stands are simply there.

A day trip

Dim River trout houses

East of town — after Dim Cave, a half day

Lunch by the river. Not a walk from the house; the meal of a cave-and-valley day.

History

An open-air museum, from the door.

All of this is on the peninsula, walkable from the house. We do not quote ticket prices or opening hours; the hosts will have today’s facts.

A simple walk from the door

  1. Down through Tophane’s stone streets — bougainvillea, shade, the slope.
  2. The Red Tower. About seven to eight minutes from the house.
  3. Through the historic gate and down the stairs to Tersane Beach; along the old sea walls to the shipyard.
  4. The crescent bay, fishing boats, the historic harbor.
  5. If you wish: about six hundred steps from Esat Tower toward the castle — or the cable car from Damlataş to Ehmedek.
  6. On the west of the peninsula, Damlataş Cave and the Archaeological Museum; Damlataş Beach in front.

1226 · 7–8 min from the house

Kızıl Kule — the Red Tower

Seljuk Sultan Alaeddin Keykubad I; architect Ebu Ali Reha of Aleppo. Octagonal, about 33 metres high, 29 metres across. The symbol of Alanya — on the city flag; once on the 250,000 TL banknote. Ethnographic museum on the ground floor. It protects the harbor and the shipyard.

1227–1228 · a coastal walk from the tower

Tersane — the Seljuk shipyard

The only surviving Seljuk shipyard of its kind in Turkey. About 300 metres from the Red Tower along the old sea walls. Uneven historic stone; wear sturdy shoes. The natural companion to the tower.

13th century · UNESCO Tentative List, 2009

Alanya Castle

A Seljuk fortress on a 250-metre rocky peninsula, over Byzantine and Roman remnants. Walls about 6.5 km, some 140 towers, hundreds of cisterns. The inner citadel (İç Kale) is the hilltop. From Esat Tower, a historic climb of about 600 steps.

Inside the castle · cable-car upper station

Ehmedek

A historic fortification within the castle. The Alanya cable car (Teleferik) arrives here from Damlataş.

A walk · a millennial quay

Historic harbor / crescent bay

Fishing boats, gulets. The walk of merchants and sailors for millennia.

Outside the door · conservation area

The streets of Tophane

Ottoman-era stone houses, bougainvillea, a registered historic site. Five civilizations. The house is part of this fabric.

West of the peninsula · found in 1948

Damlataş Cave

Discovered during harbor quarry work. Stalactites and stalagmites, some 15,000 years in the making. A constant about 22°C and high humidity; long associated with respiratory relief. The first cave opened to tourism in Turkey. Damlataş Beach in front. We do not quote old ticket prices.

Near Damlataş

Alanya Archaeological Museum

Finds from around Alanya, Bronze Age to Ottoman — including the well-known bronze Heracles. We do not invent hours; ask your host.

The sea

Closest first. Then sand. Then the east.

In summer, go early or late. We do not invent secret coves. Boat trips from the historic harbor visit sea caves; Phosphorus Cave (Fosforlu) is a known stop. Ask the host for times and fares.

Tersane Beach

Closest · 7–8 minutes · pebble

A small pebble beach between the Red Tower and the historic shipyard. Clear, shallow water; you swim among castle walls. Reached through the historic gate by the tower, then stairs. It can be crowded in high season; there can be litter — better to say so.

Cleopatra Beach

About 2 km west · fine sand · Blue Flag

West of the peninsula. Golden sand, and the legend of Cleopatra bathing here with Antony. The most popular, the most developed. The western end is quieter. Combine with Damlataş Cave and the cable car.

Damlataş Beach

In front of the cave · a small bay

A smaller bay by the cave, dramatic cliffs, a more intimate late light.

Keykubat Beach

East of the peninsula · a long sandy stretch

Sand running east. Often calmer than Cleopatra.

Boats and river shade

From the harbor · or into the hills

Boat trips from the historic harbor go to the sea caves. The Dim area and the mountain valleys are not the sea; they are river shade and a cooler lunch.

Do not pack them into one day. The pool is yours until 21:00.

II

A castle afternoon

Let the heat pass. Early evening, six hundred steps from Esat, or the cable car from Damlataş to Ehmedek. Walls, sea, quiet. Sit on Kale Caddesi at sunset. Come down slowly.

III

A Dim and mountain day

East, about 11–12 km, Dim Cave in Kestel: a long illuminated walkway, an underground lake, the Taurus. Then trout by the Dim River. For a fuller day, Sapadere Canyon — wooden walkways in a mountain gorge. Ask us about the road and tickets.
